There are 800,000 strokes per year in the US and 87 percent are the result of acute ischemic strokes which are a leading cause of severe disability. The UC Stroke Team was the first multidisciplinary “stroke team” in the country and is still serving the Greater Cincinnati Tri-State area, providing 24/7 stroke care, consultation, and treatment to most regional acute care hospitals in the area. Our multidisciplinary physicians are based out of the University of Cincinnati Medical Center and specifically advise on acute ischemic stroke treatment for thrombolysis (clot-busting) or endovascular therapy for eligible stroke patients arriving at regional hospitals. As certified stroke/vascular neurology-trained physicians, we specialize in providing excellent stroke and Neurology care at UC and in collaboration with community hospitals. Our team includes certified vascular neurologists, neurointensivists, neurointerventionalists, advanced practice providers, nurses, and researchers, available to treat patients from symptom onset through stroke clinic follow-up.
